Kaira, Sylver, and Tartok explore the Ailik Islands. What will they find among the trees and rocky edges of this system?

Kaira emerged from the water and walked onto the rocky shore of a small island. She noticed mussels on the rocks, as usual, and was tempted by them despite not being very hungry. She stared at them for a few moments before succumbing. She leaped onto a rock, perching carefully, and leaned over to pry some of the shells off of the rock. She grabbed one and went to work gnawing it open. Using her mouth and paws with expert skill, she opened the creature and eagerly gobbled up the meat inside. She continued eating while she waited for the others to reach the shore.

Sylver stepped onto the shore just as Kaira finished a mussel. "I'll never know how you get those open so easily."

"Years of practice and lots of natural talent," Kaira said while flashing a grin. "I'm surprised it's taking Tartok this long to swim over. I was starting to think he was actually getting better at swimming." Though her tone was teasing, she felt a small amount of concern. She looked out over the water, waiting for their companion to reach the shore.

If a wolf could blush, Tartok would be doing so.
He kicked his legs with an intensity, doing his best to look like he was cool and collected, and that he definitely was good at swimming. But none of this was true, though he was getting better with each passing day. The others took to the water so naturally that it seemed as if they had sprang from the water themselves when they were born, much to Tartok's chagrin.
Tartok finally made it to the shore, shaking out his fur and trying to ignore the concerned look on his leader's face. "Looks like you found some snacks there Kaira, I bet it took a lot of mussel to get those open. He chuckled slightly to himself and hoped that they would find some humor in his utterly terrible pun.

Kaira let out a breath of relief as Tartok reached the shore. Maybe we should slow down for him sometimes, he's not used to swimming the way we are. She thumped her tail and flashed a grin in response to his pun. "It takes so much effort to open these, sometimes I really clam up. Would you like any? Have you ever cracked them open before? If not, I'd be happy to open some for you."

Tartok's smiled gleefully at her response, looking down to consider the mussel in all of it's fishiness. "Well I must say I've never opened one up myself, so I'm going to let myself be a little shellfish for a moment and try one." He looked at her out of the corner of his eye coyly. "I've certainly fished to taste one ever since I saw a seagull crack one open a while back."

"Ugh, these puns are unBEARABLE, you two," Sylver said before starting on a mussel herself. "But I'm glad Tartok made it across safely." She tried hiding the fact that she was actually worried about him for a second.

Tartok laughed as he bent down to try his paw at opening one of the mussels. "I appreciate your concern Sylver." He gave her his cute little grin that he seemed to save just for her and flicked his eyes down to the task at hand. He stared at the mussels blankly for a minute, idly batting it with his paw. "Alright, we all know I'm not gonna get this thing open, so let's speed up the process and show me how please?" He admitted with a humorous tone.

Kaira had been watching Tartok, waiting to be invited to teach him how to get the meat out of the little shelled creature. Externally, she was patient. Internally? Not as much. She couldn't tell whether she was impatient because she loved teaching or because she loved showing off. Either way, she went over to him excitedly when he asked for her help. "You can either chew on them, which can work sometimes - but can also break a tooth - or throw them against rocks." She hunkered down over the mussel, using her paws to hold it in place and press it while she gnawed on the shell. She tilted her head at just the right angle, and felt a surge of satisfaction as it opened. "To get the meat out, just hold the shell down with your paws, and lick at the meat or grab it with your teeth. It shouldn't be too hard."

"Thank you Kaira, you make it look so easy you know!" He scruntisized the other whole mussel that sat at his feet in the sand. "You know, I might not risk prying them open, I much like my pearly whites, don't you?" He lifted his lips back to reveal his gleaming chompers. "I might try throwing them against the rock this time."
He grabbed the mussel in his teeth and swung his head at a nearby rock, letting the mussel go and smack with "tunk" into the rough stone. It shattered into pieces on the ground, revealing the meat that lay inside.
"Well," He stepped closer to sniff the remains. "A little messy, but hey, it got the job done!" He bent to lick the treat up from the ground. "Pwetty gooth too." He said between licks.

Kaira felt a swell of pride, impressed that he had learned so quickly. "They are pretty tasty!" She waded back into the water, pulling more mussels off of the rocks for all the wolves to eat. "All the clams and mussels are one benefit of Ailik having so many rocks in the water. Mussels like to latch onto them. Maybe after we're done eating, we can go exploring?"

Sylver held back a laugh at Tartok's humorous antics. "Exploring sounds good. I love the view around here. And the rocks. Rocks are fun...."

"I like rocks, too" Kaira replied with a grin. "I guess we can go have a nice look around, then!" She walked onto a rock and started walking and jumping from rock to rock along the shore, enjoying the feeling of sea spray as the ocean hit the boulders. She jumped onto a large rock to perch on its tip and look around. "We should go to one of the bigger islands in the chain and have a look around the actual forest. These islands are cool, the forests in the center have more hills than the other systems." She carefully positioned herself on the rock and plunged into the water, kicking out strongly and swimming towards a larger island. Their new destination was close, so the swim wouldn't be too difficult for her companions. She pulled herself onto the shore, briefly looking over her shoulder to check on the other wolves before running into the trees.

Sylver followed after her sister, happily jumping from rock to rock. When she reached the water, she swam more slowly to allow Tartok to keep up.
