Tartok wagged his tail and yipped at the thought of exploring. "I'm ready when you are boss." He exclaimed, brushing her side as a sign of affection and loyalty. He followed his companions into the water, his muscles straining as his legs streaked through the waves. They seem to reach the island in no time this time around, and he shook the water from his pelt.
All stood still however, as a shrill pained yip filled the air, and a figure streaked out from the treeline, stumbling and falling with a splash into the ocean from a small cliff. Tartok whipped his around to see the outline of a female gristle and her cubs staring down this obviously unwelcome visitor. Tartok feared the worse from this massive predator, though it seemed like this had satisfied her, and with a huff she ambled back into the dark of the pines with her baby.
Tartok turned to see a shewolf walk stiffly onto dry land, looking warliy at the three wolves she had stumbled across. It seemed that the islands had a new visitor.

Pounamu hadn't had the slightest idea that should would be running into a mother grizzly bear and her cub today. Nor had she thought she would run into a pack of three wolves. But alas, life has a way of surprising you.
She had thought that a fun little swim, exploring these very probably uninhabited islands, and eventually lucking out on a great meal of salmon or deer was how this was gonna go. But when she had approached a bush of tasting looking berries, a grizzly bear had risen from the bush unexpectedly. She ran at full speed, in any direction that would take her AWAY AWAY AWAY, but not before the grizzly bears claw had given her a good 'ol scratch on her hind leg. Next thing she knew, she had fallen into the water and found herself confronted with three wolves.
Pounamu came out of the water in a fearful position, her tail tucked behind between her legs and she cowered a bit, but she was growling in defense as well. She didn't want to be messed with.

Kaira stared in shock at the newcomer. As the wolf postured herself and gave a low growl, Kaira immediately understood that she wasn't looking for a fight, but would defend herself if necessary. Kaira held erect, dominant posture, but licked her lips and avoided looking directly at the new wolf. She wanted to show that she was in charge, but not trying to challenge her. She gave a small wag of her tail and waited to see how the she-wolf would react.

Pounamu's position relaxed slightly, intrigued at this wolf's show of kindness. She backed up some more, a good distance, and then stopped growling so she could communicate with them.
"Hey, I don't know what you're goal is here, but you're not fooling me. I've met lots of wolves that would gladly tear a girl like me apart, I'm not going to make that mistake." She said, the fur on the back of her neck still standing on end while she slowly backed up. Any sudden moves might make them change their minds and attack.
She glanced at the ocean, and at the woods. It had taken awhile of swimming to get here, and she knew that these wolves were experienced swimmers that could out pace her any day. On the other hand, running back into the woods would mean sure death by grizzly momma. So she supposed trying to stall until she came up with a plan was what she would have to do.

“We have no interest in hurting you, I promise,” Kaira said reassuringly. “Are you from another pack, or are you alone? We’d love to have you if you’re looking for a new pack. You’re more than welcome to hang around for a bit to get a feel for the islands before you make a decision. If you don’t want to stay, you will have to leave our land, but we won’t harm you unless you make us.”

Pounamu, of all the emotions she could be experiencing, was getting annoyed. Annoyed at the fact she couldn't figure these wolves out. It was a doggy eat dog world out there, and they seemed to have not gotten the memo.
Pounamu considered her response, deciding to lie was better than anything else she could say. "I'm not alone! Of course I'm not... I was just scoping this place out for my big strong pack, who would be very upset if they found me missing for to long". She shuffled her feet trying to look nonchalant. She turned to face the ocean, gazing out at the waves and a lonely gull catching the winds with it's wings.
"You know, it's been awhile since I- I mean since our pack has had any food, so maybe if I had some and brought some back, it would be considered a peace offering and we'd never have to bother you again." She turned back to face them, trying to look like a majestic and regal pack member. She probably just looked like a waterlogged dog though.

Kaira's hackles immediately raised and she lowered her ears. "You are in no position to make deals. We don't need to make a peace offering. If you're part of another pack and don't want to join us, you need to leave. If we see your pack on our land, they'll get a fight rather than food." She now looked directly at the female wolf. She couldn't believe her nerve, one wolf against three, acting like she was tough. She had no idea why she had tried to make threats when the island wolves had been so non-aggressive.

Pounamu was impressed by this wolf's unwillingness to budge, and her determination considering her small group would be little defense against an actual threat. She also faced very few options here. Pounamu raised her head and responded. "Look, I'll be frank with you, there is no pack." She was very assuredly taking a shot in the dark here, but ah but was life without chance? Perhaps lady luck would be on her side today.
"I'm a loner, and in terms of packs go, you intrigue me." She looked around her. "This is quite a place you got here, and I admire a leader with such spunk as yourself. Perhaps, if in the previous statements I have not gone over the line, I may join this band of wolves?"
Seemed like a fun idea, and she quietly applauded herself for the quick thinking and professional speech. If they accepted her, then hey some company and some food. If she didn't like it then she could just leave. Hopefully their next plan of action wasn't to straight up kill her though.

Kaira flattened her ears further, and felt her lips start to draw up, but she forced herself to stay still and not bare her teeth. Several emotions had surged through her very suddenly - anger at the fact that she had lied, relief that there wasn’t any threatening pack, and then anger and bewilderment at the sheer nerve of this wolf. She probably looked a bit stiff and frozen, glaring with a fiery gaze, but eventually took a deep breath. This is what you’ve wanted. She’s a quick thinker, and has survival instincts. We need more wolves. This is what we’ve wanted! Gotta accept what we can get.
She exhaled slowly, relaxing her posture. “Sorry, I was...kind of taken aback for a moment. Thanks for the, uh, compliment? As you can see, we’re definitely short on wolves, and you seem quick on your paws, so as long as no one else sees any problems-“ she shot a quick glance at Sylver and Tartok. “-I would be fine with having you join us.”

Tartok stood awkwardly further back, sizing up the new wolf with displeasure. This almost seemed to be like a game to her, and this displeased Tartok. She also seemed clever and obviously unpredictable. He loved his life here already and he did not wish for some child-like rogue to meddle with the pack.
He stepped closer to Sylver as a protective instinct. "I'll go with whatever you say pack leader." But if it involves Sylver getting hurt it's my teeth to that dog's throat. he thought. The problem was, she definitely had more muscle than him,and though he stood higher, he was just a gangly boy. But still, he would do what was necessary.

Sylver's torn ear gave a twitch of uncertainty. She unconsciously moved closer to Tartok and spoke with a slight growl. "I trust my sister's judgement. But I won't let my guard down," she sighed, sending the bold wolf a dangerous glare. Sylver didn't appear very threatening at first glance, but if any creature had the audacity to harm one of her own, she could become a monster made of fury. But the thought of Tartok being harmed filled her with something she had never felt before. Which in turn, filled her with confusion and curiosity. She stared at him with a soft look in her eyes before averting her gaze out of embarrassment when he seemed to notice.

Kaira nodded, noting their hesitation - the new wolf seemed to leave a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. She trusted her companions’ intuition, so she would make sure to keep her guard up. As if I wouldn’t do that anyways.
“Alright, sounds like you’ll be able to join us. What’s you’re name? I’m Kaira. This is my sister, Sylver, and our dark colored friend here is Tartok.

Danger averted, phew. Pounamu bowed her head in respect, before gleefully trotting over and rolling over in submission, though she couldn't stop herself from wagging her tail in excitement.
She got up and sniffed the others in curiousity and greeting. None of these wolves had fur quite as thick as hers, especially the lanky black one; she was quite proud of her floofy fur. "My name's Pounamu by the way."

Tartok's gaze caught Sylver's, and they held something soft and unspoken. She averted her gaze before it went any further, bt something had gone between them just there. He tried to focus his attention back on the rogue as she approached their leader. He continued to watch her warily, stiffening at her approach and moving closer to Sylver still, his fur brushing hers.

Kaira watched Sylver and Tartok. What's up with them? She blinked, and tried to turn her attention back to Pounamu. "Nice to meet you! Just uh, sit still for a moment, I need to talk to my friends for a second." She went over to Sylver and Tartok and spoke in a low, soft voice. "I know she said there are no other wolves with her, and I believe her, but...I don't know. I just want to go check around a bit to see if any other wolves are lurking around. I'll go to the shore, I thought maybe Sylver could come with. Would you feel comfortable taking Pounamu back to the camp on Askja, Tartok? Just...keep an eye on her. Sorry to cut out island exploration short, I promise I'll make it up to you."
