It was small, dark emerald bush with a good-sized hole through it. It had worked for him, who appeared to be quite lanky from the outside, and he napped there all night, only with the occasional nightmare of a crow. He shivered. Why is it always those? Bloody creatures...
His paws rubbed over his pale yellow ears and eyes, an attempt to clear the mid-morning blurriness that was in them. Though perhaps it really was just a foggy day? They were lucky, according to him, but could also quickly turn unlucky if you weren't smart enough to handle yourself in the thick blanket of mist. One part of him was excited to see what the world was going to throw his way - maybe he could even find some easy food, or a weird plant - but the other part of him was pessimistic that he'd just get lost in the fog. Again. After a few more minutes of mulling it over, the male sighed heavily and began to crawl out of his shelter, some how bullying himself into going out. Effort...pfft. He shook out his thick multi-colored coat from leaves and brush that stuck onto it, though it took him more than a few back-rubs on the ground to get rid of all the burrs that had made a home in his fur.
As he was trotting along the forest to the coast, he spotted a crab through the foggy beach grounds and let out an excited yelp. Linden tapped the little crab with his paw, trying to confuse it so that he could chomp down on it. Which did not ending up going well for him, because by the second smack the tiny creature had latched onto the wolf with its claws and Linden shrieked in pain.
Once he finally DID get it off of him, the wolf began to sulk, flopping down on his stomach with a defeated grumble. I'm worthless... so worthless. He thought sadly to himself. Even though he could've gone off and found more food to eat, he felt just a tad too lazy to do so that morning. What is a wolf to do... drown, maybe. Feed my body to the fish and make use of it... curse my useless paws. He, however, did not expect for a different sort of surprise to come out of the fog that day.

[After leaving Tartok with the new wolf on the islands, Kaira and Sylver decide to go to the coast to see if any other wolves are nearby.]
Kaira narrowed her eyes, scanning the coast. There were no scents in the air besides the every-present smell of salt. “I don’t see anything so far, but I suppose we should keep looking.” She walked along the shore, stopping occasionally to sniff the the ground or the air. “It’ll be hard to see anything in this fog, so our best bet is to keep our ears and noses alert,” she told Sylver.

Sulking was never fun, but it was the only way to acurrately express his emotions - at least, that's what he believed. Plus, who cared about him whining like a pup when nobody was around, anyway? That's the beauty of nature. Mmhmm. In fact, unlike what my siblings thought, staying quiet out here is way more important than howling louder than your brother. Linden though to himself, bobbing his head on the sand in a...strange agreement to himself. "Though that does mean more crows. And crows mean death. One way or another, pffff..." Linden let out an amused whuff to himself, even if himself speaking it aloud was being blatantly hypocritical.
With another sigh, he lifted himself up. His right paw still ached from his previous shelled foe. That was a disappointment. I'm a disappointment. "I'll find something BETTER than a crab..." He grumbled low to himself, his paws dragging him forth and further along the coast - with the occasional limp and some angry muttering.
"Sea animals are seriouslyyy ridiculous. I don't need no crabs-" Linden paused, his words cutting off as his sharp yellow gaze caught sight of two other wolves. What the- His hackles raised instinctively at first, feeling the need to defend rather than run away for some reason. What am I even doing...? They could kill me in a second. Doesn't matter if they're girls... Linden shook his head, then lowered it, his tail practically dragging across the sand as he try to pass them. Pleasedon'tkillme. Pleasedon'tkillme. Thankyou. Youcanhaveallthecrabsyouwant. He whimpered a little as he skirted the area of the two females, hoping not to be noticed...in plain sight.

Kaira tilted her head slightly, forgetting all about proper wolf posturing as she saw the dark-colored male sinking into the dirt as if they wouldn't see him. Was he sick? Was he mentally unwell? Was he a complete idiot? She was completely baffled. "You know we can see you, right? You aren't on our territory or anything, so don't worry, but...you seem a bit..out of your element here on the shoreline."

After the strange wolf remained silent for a few seconds, a slightly freaked out Sylver unconsciously moved closer to Kaira. She stared awkwardly at the dark wolf who reminded her of a crow. "Uh...are you alright there?"

Linden's ears flattened as he continued his army-crawl across the sand. Golden particles slipped in-between the pads on his paws, the places of loose fur in his coat, and irritating his nostrils as he inhaled sharply in his panic. Once the brown female started to speak, however, he froze in place, grains pressing uncomfortably into his legs as he stared back like a frightened deer. Although he didn't freeze quietly in place, as he yowled in surprise when it happened.
She can see-? Oh, skunk dung- I guess that, uhhh...they've probably got some really sharp optics from all their hunting here, too?
"Errrr..." The male fumbled over his words, still in slight shock from her easy-going reaction. "Yeahhh, not like I grew up here. I wish. But I'm as fine as an absolutely famished guy could be - seriously, I'm too worthless to even catch a crab." Linden cocked his head at her, continuing to be puzzled at how the situation played out. "...Sooo, uh, you're not going to kill me, though?" Linden's eyes widened more as he spoke. "Because that would be...uhh, pretty rad! Definitely rad. Even cooler if you could let me just squeeze by, maybe? Go find myself some carrion before those vile monsters get to it first. Promise I'll check the scent markers before I go."

Kaira just...stared at him. He was just so odd. The way he spoke, the way he moved. His odd mannerisms were a bit endearing, to be honest. "We aren't going to kill you," she said, before scanning the whole length of his body. "You don't exactly seem too...threatening. If it means that much to you, we could always just catch you a few crabs. Or some fish. Anything better than carrion. No need to starve." She tilted her head again, looking forward to seeing what he would do next.

Once Linden heard her, his blonde-flecked ears rose up in pure excitement. "Ah! Yes?! Good, that's good!" The male bobbed his head to echo his statement. Even if it was obvious to others that they were non-threatening, he wasn't the kind to keep thoughts in his mind. His pale gaze watched Kaira observe him with slight interest. Alright, I guess she's only seeing if I don't look like a monster...but I also have probably lost all my handsome muscles from snoozing...for...like, a week straight. That's kinda embarrassing in front of females, if anything. Oh well.
His mind rambled on as she replied, which took him a minute to regain his composure. "No- Wait, what? You'll... help me? C-catch food?? You're sure?" Having hunting buddies out of two wolves of which he believed previously to be territorial murderers was a tad shocking, in the least. But deep down, he did wish for a bit of socialization, and maybe a few tasty crabs if they didn't get too hurt from them. "Errrm...well, I'm uh, Linden." The male's eyes narrowed, almost in thought at what he was called, then nodded again before he finished. "Just don't let the vile sky-terrors hear that."

Sylver slowly met the wolf who called himself Linden's gaze with a very confused stare. Vile sky-terrors? Vile monsters? Does he mean...crows? She shook her head to clear the thought away. "Uh...yes, we would be glad to help you catch food...My name is Sylver by the way..." What a strange wolf...is he even a wolf at all?

“And I’m Kaira.” Kaira pitched in after shooting an awkward glance to Sylver. This wolf is crazy. “Do you want to learn how to catch crabs?”

Linden nodded his head with a friendly smile; knowing names was a good step towards acquaintances! And, if they ever decided to betray him out of nowhere, he'll have the memory of them in his head. Just in case, He thought. No ill-will towards them, buuut naturally crab stealers and back-stabbers go hand-in-hand. Crabs are tiny, angry, and brutal, plus they will grab stuff when you're not looking.
The male could feel his fur prickle with excitement at her question. He was really going to learn the right way of doing it!! Hopefully he'd still not be useless like earlier. That would be too embarrassing for him. "Oh! Yeah!! I do!" Linden replied, with a chipper note in his voice. His legs could not hold it any longer, and he bounced around in the sand with excitement. "Thank you again, misses! We should probably get going then, no?"

“Yeah, we can go now.” Kaira was still very intrigued, and a bit amused, by Linden. “Crabs aren’t usually too hard to find. Some of them are really small and bite-sized, others are a bit bigger. You’ll always get punched here and there, but there are ways to minimize that. Try to get them from behind, where their claws can’t reach you.”
She trotted along the beach, keeping her eyes peeled for crabs. When she spotted one scuttling across the beach, she ran over to it. Using her paw, she hit its rear end to flip it upside down, then darted down to sink her teeth into it. With the crab in her mouth, she looked up excitedly, and then realized that she may have explained things a little too fast. “We can, uh, go over it a few more times before you give it a shot.”

Linden listened with intriuge as Kaira spoke, rapidly nodding his head as he took it in. BITE-SIZED CRABS? BY THE SKIES ABOVE! He was grinning from ear to ear, pale eyes glimmering as he thought of the prospect. Although...with such pincers as those, they'd probably pull out a tooth. Owwww. I don't...really wanna get pinched... But, STILL! TINY! CRABS! I'll just have to watch watch these ladies do, I guess.
Linden watched her trot forward onto the beach, his lanky figure awkward against the stronger, trained forms of the two pack members. He felt especially embarrassed while watching Kaira catch a crab so effortlessly, while his last few attempts either ended with a bad wound or him sulking for the rest of the day. She makes it look too easy. I don't even think the sky-terrors would be able to do things like that. A frowned crossed his face, a slight feeling of self-pity as he considered his old talents. "I used to be good at that stuff. Dang." He grumbled aloud to himself, the dark head of the male tilting as he observed Kaira's skill.
Once he saw her head pop up with a crab, and a delighted grin on her maw, Linden couldn't help but smile a bit himself. "That...looked, like, super advanced." He admitted with a chuckle, shuffling his paws in the sand. "Buuuut...I'll go for it! I'll, uhhh, try to remember everything, even if I'm pretty fuzzy with all this hunting stuff." He replied with a nod.
His paws took him from a trot to a gallop in a matter of a few seconds. If there was one thing he was good at, it was running. Running from home, running from predators, running from prey...it all felt the same. The sea's breeze whipped through his short, summer coat as his paws glided across the smooth sand, eyes full of excitement and belly full of nerves. He hadn't realized that his run took him too close to the forest for there to be crabs, though, so he pushed on.

i- i'm on a mission tonight
that blonde she's a bomb she's an atom bomb
His claws dug into the trunk of the tree, skidding backwards and scrabbling to cling to the bark. Front limbs dangling over the branch, he could feel its harsh bark press into his short belly fur. A soft whine escaped from him as a particularly stubborn twig poked him in his sensitive stomach. Why was climbing a tree so damn hard? Rafael tried to hunch over the branch even further, trying to get his stupid hind legs up on the branch. Come on you useless, furless limbs! This shouldn't be so hard! Lynxes, crows, and domestic cats made this look so damn easy!
Huffing and wheezing, he struggled to haul his hind legs up until finally- finally he was tentatively laying on a branch! Yes! That hadn't been too hard, not at all! Rafael resolutely nodded his head, a little pleased smile on his face. Being up this high was so cool. The wide green leaves that decorated the thinner branches up above him were even prettier the closer he was to them. The light of the fading day highlighted them beautifully, the golden light misting through the tree tops.
Hmmm. Slowly, Rafael struggled to his feet. Briefly, he wondered if it would hold his weight. The world wasn't made in a day, sooo.. experimentally he bounced a little on the branch and he swayed rather violently as it moved with him. Uh oh. Crkkkk... Rafael froze in place, ears tense and straining to hear anything else. Was he too heavy? Dammit! Maybe this wasn't a good idea. So worth it though. The sway of the branch's leaves in front of him had him eyeing the tree uncertainly. Was it going to make that sound again? Criiiiiiiiiiik... Uh, yeah. Of course it would. Why wouldn't it not? The black wolf couldn't move all that much; he was a large canine sitting on the lowest limb in a tree and probably the stupidest out of all the wolves that ever lived.
Again, Rafael bounced his hindquarters a little and he couldn't help the slightly bemused grin that spread on his face. From underneath his paws, the branch split and he was careening to the ground. A rather loud yelp slipped from him the moment it cracked, and he was falling.. (loudly screaming as he did so actually, but he would forever deny that it rose several octaves) falling- a whuffffff escaped his chest as he landed on something large, heavy, and warm.
